Steam Car 1000 Cylinder Oil - 5L
Description:
These oils are designed for use in most locomotives and stationary engines operating with saturated steam. Produced from selected cylinder stock and treated with fatty compounds, particularly tallow, they deliver superior lubrication even under wet conditions. The fatty compounds form emulsions that spread the oil across internal surfaces, creating a durable lubricating film to protect bores and valves. This is especially vital where very wet steam is present in the cylinders, or where steam carries water treatment chemicals.
Features:
-
Provides corrosion protection, especially during over-wintering
-
Compatible with a wide range of steam types (from saturated to low superheat)
-
Produces minimal piston deposits
-
High lubricity
Applications:
Compound Steam 460 and 680 oils are ideally suited to all steam engines operating at pressures up to 175 lbs per square inch, with typical steam temperatures reaching 450ºF (230ºC). Alongside cylinder lubrication, they are recommended for valve chests, slides, linkages, and general lubrication using mechanical applicators, atomisers, or oil cans.
Steam Car Compound 1000 has been specially developed for non-condensing models, with input from Stanley Steam Car owners. Its advanced formulation not only ensures effective cylinder lubrication but also provides clear visibility in the ‘Winker’. This oil can be used in all steam engines operating at pressures exceeding 250 lbs per square inch, with both saturated and superheated steam. It meets the specification requirements of British Rail schedule MT276.
Important Note:
These oils must not be used where steam is recovered for reuse as boiler or process feed, and complete oil separation is required.
