460 & 680 Compound Steam Cylinder Oils
Compound Steam Cylinder Oils 460 and 680 are for use in most Locomotives and Stationary engines working with either saturated or superheated steam. They are produced from special cylinder stock treated with fatty compounds to provide superior lubrication even if wet conditions are encountered. The fatty compounds form emulsion s which spead the oil on the internal surfaces, providing a strong lubricationg film where needed to protect bores and valves. This is particularly important where very wet steam has to be handled at the cylinders, or water treatment chemicals are carried with the steam.
These compounded oils are ideally suited for all steam engines working up to pressures in excess of 250lbs per square inch. Please refer to the selection chart for other recommendations. In addition to cylinders, these oils are recommended for valve chests, slides, linkages and general lubrication, by means of mechanical applicators, atomisers or oil can.
Important Note: These oils must not be used where the steam is being recovered for use as a boiler or process feed and the complete separation from oil is essential.
